When people think of traditional rice wine, Japan's Sake often comes to mind.
But few realise that Malaysia has its own centuries-old rice wine tradition.
It is called Sarawak Tuak.
Made from glutinous rice, yeast and water, Tuak has long been part of the cultural identity of the indigenous communities of Sarawak.
For generations, Tuak has been served during Gawai Dayak celebrations, weddings, harvest festivals and important family gatherings.
Like Sake in Japan, Tuak is more than just an alcoholic beverage.
It represents hospitality, respect and community.
While Sake and Tuak are produced differently and possess distinct flavour profiles, both share a common role:
Preserving culture through fermentation.
Today, as more Malaysians rediscover local heritage products, Sarawak Tuak is beginning to gain recognition beyond Borneo.
At Drunken Paddy, our mission is simple:
To introduce authentic Sarawak Tuak to a new generation while preserving the traditions behind every bottle.
Authentic Sarawak Tuak.
Tradition in Every Sip.
Many people think they're the same.
They're not.
